Did it! Amsterdam – Sarajevo, (almost) 4000 kilometers on foot

The 24th of March I left Amsterdam to hike for a while. “Walking back to the Balkans”. Why? Because I can, because I like hiking. Because it’s slow, because it’s a perfect way to really see a country. To feel and experience. Because I feel good, being “on the road”. And because I thought it would be a good idea to (re)discover my own country, before heading off to the Balkans.

In this blog I try to give an impression of my journey. I created a video for each country I crossed. Since I’m not carrying a computer with me, I do everything on my smartphone. Writing, blogging, filming and also all the photos I took are shot with my phone. Of course I would like to have the coolest gear to make real bad-ass movies and pictures, but I also believe that it is important to create something personal. That’s why I choose to add music I have been listening to, music that tells something about how I felt. Music that is in a way related to that part of my journey.

Looking back on May (2017)

At the end of the month I like to look back on what I’ve done and where I’ve been. On how I felt and what was on my mind. It turned out that my Instagram feed actually gives a pretty good impression. So, I decided to put them together in a blog post. Here’s May 2017. more “Looking back on May (2017)”

Hilly Luxembourg

The last night that I camped in Belgium, I didn’t pay enough attention. I just put up my tent on a sort of flat field and went to bed. Next morning I noticed a strong smell. Cowshit. Shit, that field had been sprinkled (fertilized?) probably the day before. How could I have missed that?  more “Hilly Luxembourg”

Walking back to the Balkans

I want to be on the road. Wander around with everything I need on my back. Being outside, outdoors, sleeping in a tent and strolling through nature. That’s when I feel best. That’s when I feel free. And all the other things will come as they do. What things? I don’t exactly know, I’ll find out along the way. more “Walking back to the Balkans”

Bikram Biking – UP&down

I had two months off, two months to bike. What shall I do? Where shall I go? One thing I knew for sure, I wouldn’t follow rivers, this time. Neither would I be heading towards a sea… I’ve always wanted to go to Istanbul, but I never succeeded. Would I, could I this time? From Amsterdam to Istanbul, biking the highest route through the mountains. In two months…

Summer 2015. UP&down, UP&down. The game was on, just like the sun. Bikini biking. Bikram biking. UP&down, UP&down. Biking the HIGH route from Amsterdam to Istanbul the Balkans. more “Bikram Biking – UP&down”

Biking to the Black Sea and Back Home

I was dreaming of an adventure. A big adventure. A bike around the world Europe and seize the day kind of adventure. The months before my departure were filled with working, preparing, packing and working. I saved every penny, hoping that it would buy me enough time. Time I could spend traveling, being on the road, having my adventure. The third of April I opened my front door, got on my new, still unnamed bike and started to pedal. more “Biking to the Black Sea and Back Home”

Biking the Green Route to the Mediterranean Sea

Staying in the mountains means getting the best out of life and being there always puts a grin on my face. The mountains make me feel calm and at ease, whether I’m hiking, cycling, climbing or mountaineering. I love being surrounded by these natural giants. I respect them; they make me feel grateful and insignificant. My physical and mental power, stamina and drive are tested. Simultaneously, these characteristics will show you your place, not only now, but for the rest of your life. This always makes me feel a little uncomfortable in summer, a feeling that never vanishes entirely. This summer, that uncomfortable feeling was stronger than ever. more “Biking the Green Route to the Mediterranean Sea”
