BLOG | Trebevic Tales | Up and down

Here I am again, back on my blog and I got another (by the time I post it) old update for you. Here’s the fourth and last part of my Trebević work-away adventure: Trebević Tales #4 “UP and DOWN”. The second half of January It took a while to write this post, because I wasn’t sure what to share and what not. I still don’t know, but what I do know is that I started my blog with the idea to write about what I…Continue Reading “UP and DOWN ~ Trebević Tales #4”

BLOG | Trebević Tales

“What are you doing for Christmas? Where will you be at New Year’s Eve? Do you have plans for your birthday?” Same questions every year. More or less same answer every year. “Don’t know, I’ll see.” For me the holidays aren’t anything special. I’d be totally fine hanging out in a hut, shovelling snow, making fire, walk a little, read a little. But to be honest this year I did feel like spending time with friends. Maybe I could do this walking, fire- making and…Continue Reading “The Wild One & Me ~ Trebević Tales #1”

BLOG | Snow and other stuff in Sarajevo

It’s the fifth time that I’m in Sarajevo. I’ve seen pretty much every season, from bloody, bloody hot to freeeezing cold, I only did not see any snow. Until two weeks ago. Caroline, a friend who came to visit me, saw it first. ˝I see something falling from the sky..˝ I got out of bed to check, but couldn’t really see anything. ˝Well, I think it’s the reflection of the light on the dirty windows.˝ The next morning everything was white. No dirty windows, (hmm…Continue Reading “Snooooow in Sarajevo!”

BLOG | Ready to go!

While sitting on my balcony, watching the sunset I realise I am ready. It feels weird, I’m having an amazing time here, but I’m also ready to move on. The adventure I am so much looking forward to is about to begin. Well, that’s not entirely true, the adventure has already started long ago. Life is one big adventure. I’m just moving on. A next chapter. Today I have sent ahead the last package for supplies on the road. Besides maps and directions it contains…Continue Reading “Ready to go!”

BLOG | Hiking from Sarajevo to Vukov Konak

A few weeks ago while I was still in Amsterdam, I saw a post on the Terra Dinarica Facebook page about a guesthouse named Vukov Konak. They were looking for volunteers to help them during the summer season. Of course my plan was (and still is) to hike the White Trail, but I couldn’t help clicking and scrolling down Vukov Konaks page. When I came across a video that showed a little concert in their cosy wooden living room, I knew I had to go and find that…Continue Reading “Hiking from Sarajevo to Vukov Konak”

BLOG | Goings in Sarajevo

It’s Tuesday today, which means I have already been here over a week. Time flies! The todo list I made last week may not be growing, but looking at it I ask myself what I did do. That’s why it is a good idea to keep a diary, any form of diary. I’m not quite sure what to call myself here. Obviously I’m a tourist, but I am staying longer than usual and not doing as much sightseeing. Maybe I am a visitor, or a guest,…Continue Reading “Goings in Sarajevo”

BLOG | I’m going on a trip and I’m taking…

Saturday May 14th, accompanied by two friends and with all my luggage I left home and took the night train from Amsterdam to München. Because I thought it would be a good idea to take my bicycle, I had four extra panniers to fill with stuff. This also meant a serious challenge on the journey with all the changes in trains and buses, but I managed. In München I changed trains to Villach, there I had 10 minutes to change to the Zagreb train. On…Continue Reading “I’m going on a trip and I’m taking”

BLOG | Princess of the Mountains

Dobro jutro! While kneeled down in front of my guest bed rummaging through my bag I suddenly feel two small arms around my shoulders and a small body pressed against my back. The eight-year-old girl whose room I’m sharing this week, has come to hug me good morning and disappears as suddenly as she came in. When I’m left alone in the room after the hug, I feel my heart pounding, my stomach fluttering and my eyes water. Soon tears stream down my cheeks. A liquid smile…Continue Reading “Princess of the Mountains”

BLOG | Sarajevo; a Concrete Gem Amidst Mighty Mountains

While cycling up a tough mountain in Una National Park last summer, I came across a group of touring Bosnians. Just like any other passers-by, they wondered why on earth I was travelling on my own, by bike. It struck me that they didn’t ask why I chose to spend my holiday in Bosnia or the Balkans, but why I didn’t just take a car. Explaining my passion for cycling and solo travelling remains difficult, and perhaps it’s a cultural difference. They gave me some tips…Continue Reading “Sarajevo; a Concrete Gem Amidst Mighty Mountains”

BLOG | Between Two Worlds

After a night on an airplane, a transfer and another flight I arrived at Sarajevo airport mid morning. As forecasted it was a rainy day with low clouds so I did not see any mountains. Somewhat disappointed and tired from travelling I tried to figure out my next move, but before I could worry about where to go next I saw a girl with a sign reading: “ Eva Smeele Via Dinarica.” Smiling I went over and introduced myself. I stepped right into their most…Continue Reading “Between Two Worlds”
