In class we had to write an “essay” about our favourite, or best, weekend. Although it’s not even 150 words, it is my first story in Croatian. Thought it would be fun to share.Continue Reading "Moj najbolji vikend"
At the end of the month I like to look back on where I’ve been and what I’ve done. On how I felt and what was on my mind. I could have posted these photos on Instagram, but I didn’t. Now they’re in February’s photo diary where I leave snowy Sarajevo for The Netherlands. Usually February is a bit of a difficult month, it’s not green yet, it’s still cold and the sunrise I terribly late. This year was different though. No, not the sunrise, no. But it was warm and sunny. There were blue skies, nature started to wake up. I even saw little lambs. This crazy early spring arrived almost at the same time as I did. Lucky me!Continue Reading "Looking back on February: Crazy early spring & a microadventure"
The flow took me to Prilep, a town in South Macedonia. Prilep is known for its tobacco and beer and for the boulders. Although I already had an idea what awaited me because I watched the 2014 Petzl Roc Trip video about bouldering in Prilep, but these mountains, these rocks, they left me speechless.Continue Reading "Bouldering in Prilep, Macedonia"
First time I was in Prizren I wrote this: Prizren is definitely worth a visit. It’s a beautiful, old, vivacious town with mountains all around. I’ll definitely come back to be a real tourist, but for now hiking is on my mind.Continue Reading "Pretty Prizren Photo Story"
Standing still. Looking back. At the end of the month I like to look back on what I’ve done and where I’ve been. On how I felt and what was on my mind. Usually my Instagram pictures give a pretty good impression, but in January I took a little bit of a social media break. Not completely, but enough to find some gaps in my Instagram feed. So, I’ll add some other photos and videos in this month overview as well. Here we go, looking back on January 2018.Continue Reading "Looking back on January: Short hair, short walks and an epic birthday adventure"
Jeej, I got company! No, she is not really an hiker or outdoorsie type, but she is my oldest friend… Why is everybody asking? When are you a hiker? What is a real hiker? Are there any rules? Hmm, I think I actually don’t really care. After almost 900K of solo-hiking, my BFF Caroline joined me in Starigrad, super exiting. New company, new spirit, new challenges. New ADVENTURE. Paklenica, here we come!Continue Reading "4 Days Hiking in Paklenica National Park"
A few weeks ago while I was still in Amsterdam, I saw a post on the Terra Dinarica Facebook page about a guesthouse named Vukov Konak. They were looking for volunteers to help them during the summer season. Of course my plan was (and still is) to hike the White Trail, but I couldn’t help clicking and scrolling down Vukov Konaks page.Continue Reading "Hiking from Sarajevo to Vukov Konak"
August 2015, One week with two friends in the Balkans. After being on the bike for almost seven weeks, I managed to meet two friends in Cetinje, Montenegro. If my bike and its wheels, all the packs and I would fit in the car, I could join them on their roadtrip to Sarajevo. If not, I had ten days to get myself back to Amsterdam…Continue Reading "Balkan mini Roadtrip: Cetinje – Durmitor – Sarajevo"
It’s Friday afternoon, I’m waiting for a good friend who’s visiting me in Ljubljana for the weekend. A short break from biking to visit the city and the surroundings. I’m excited, impatient and a bit nervous. This summer holiday has been a strange mixture of biking, hiking, city and road tripping. A combination of solo-traveling and unexpected encounters with friends. It requires some dedicated planning which is quite a challenge for me as a ‘logistics-fearing&avoiding-adventurer’… But when trekking and camping becomes a new routine, it’s good to have a friend in a beautiful dress with a roller case to pull you out that comfort-zone and drag you along in her adventure.Continue Reading "Slovenia mini Roadtrip: Ljubljana – Triglav – Ljubljana"
Although I would love to hike the complete Alta Via Dolomiti, I knew that I could never convince my friend to join me on a trip like that. Every year we plan a little trip together. Do something memorable. 4 hours, 4 days or 2 weeks, it doesn’t matter. We know each other since we are four or five years old, it’s a beautiful thing to have a history with someone that goes back that far. Even more beautiful when it’s a history full of adventure. We are dreaming of spending the winter on Gran Canaria for ages (and it probably will be), but we can still do that when we are old. So this year it would be a trekking through the mountains, the Italian Dolomites! Hiking the Alta Via Dolomiti. The first trekking together and Caroline’s first trekking ever. Let the adventure begin!!Continue Reading "4 Days hiking on the Alta Via Dolomiti"
