It has been over a month since my last update, but before I move on to new stories, I’d like to write the third part of my “Trebević Tales” series, the episode where we got snowed in. Or snowed out actually. Anyhow. Let me see, I think my last update stopped somewhere on the way down. Down to town. Yes. After almost two weeks on Trebević mountain I desperately needed a shower – wash and brush my hair, that kind of stuff. So, together with Sabina and Dado (regular customer and friend of the hut) I made my way through the snow towards the city. Sarajevo city.Continue Reading "Trebević Tales #3 “Snowed in”"
“Eva, what is your website about?” Isn’t that obvious? I would say. Apparently it isn’t. The more I think of it, the more I realize that perhaps it’s hard to get indeed. To get what it’s ALL about. Because I don’t know neither. A personal blog, a life and adventure journal. Inspired by Via Dinarica, I started to explore. It’s shows a journey. The journey of me, following my path. Step by step. One step at the time. Sometimes I can hardly see the path, but that’s part of the process. The process called life.Continue Reading "What it’s all about, let me explain"
It’s a way of living. I choose to do so. I live on the road. I choose the Dinarides to do so. I’m on my way. There’s no conclusion, I’m rather in the middle of a thought. “What is your message?” a friend asked. “I don’t know.” There are loads of things I want to say, stories I want to tell, thoughts I want to share, places I want to show. But a message? It would be good if I had one. One clear message….Continue Reading “In the middle of a thought”
“And why? Why do you hike?” That’s what people ask me after they heard me out about where I started, where I’m heading to, how many kilometers a day and how heavy my backpack is. Why I hike? “Why not?” Yeah, why not? If I don’t like it anymore, I can stop. So, I hike because I want to. Because I like it. But is that really the answer?Continue Reading "Why I hike"
Why I hike? Because I can.
I hike because decided I could. I, at least could give it a go. Try.
The simplicity of putting one foot in front of the other. Slow pace. Strong nature. Little me.
This trail, these mountains, the Balkans and yes, the actual hiking are ingredients. And tools.Continue Reading "I hike because I can"
While cycling up a tough mountain in Una National Park last summer, I came across a group of touring Bosnians. Just like any other passers-by, they wondered why on earth I was travelling on my own, by bike. It struck me that they didn’t ask why I chose to spend my holiday in Bosnia or the Balkans, but why I didn’t just take a car. Explaining my passion for cycling and solo travelling remains difficult, and perhaps it’s a cultural difference.Continue Reading "Sarajevo; a Concrete Gem Amidst Mighty Mountains"
I just received an email from Alastair Humphreys, currently one of my great heroes. He is an extraordinary adventurer, author of nine books and motivational speaker, but besides that, I see him as a passionate man who is sending a message straight from and to the heart. That’s why he is a huge inspiration for me.
A few weeks ago, I signed up for his newsletter and today he finally wrote one.Continue Reading "Thoughts on Adventures"
This is how I see it: we are all floating around in an enormous swimming pool, filled with balls.Continue Reading "Balls"
A couple of years ago, a nice guy asked me at our date what I dream of. Whether I had dreams and what those were. I took it too literally, so I told him that I had a lot of dreams. “I dream pretty much always,” I said. He asked me to give an example, so I did. “One of the dreams I am having since I was a little girl, is that I am being followed by a dinosaur. By now, I can run a lot faster, but even more importantly, I can call myself to order. I can remind myself that dinosaurs have been extinct for a while already, and the chance is very low that I will find such a hungry, prehistorical creature chasing me to eat me. In my sleep I realize that it’s just a dream. But the annoying thing is, that my dream doesn’t bother. On the moment that I decide to stand still, the dinosaur keeps running and bites me in my arm. And then I wake up.”Continue Reading "What do you believe in?"
What moves you?
An uncoordinated stream of thoughts, voices, desires, dream, fantasies, plans and expectations is flooding my mind. It’s hard to answer such questions, since I tend to do things thoroughly. I could, for example, tell you what literally makes me move – think of sports or travelling; trekking by bike or on foot. I could also dig a little deeper and ask my self what my motive is to move at all or what makes me move in life.Continue Reading "What moves you?"
